VistaPDB Manual -> Layers
Layers
VistaPDB allows users to model multiple structures together using layers. Layers are represented by icons in the layer table on the left. A layer represents a defined macromolecular structure that is independent of all other models for rotations and translations.
Layers can be added by going to Layer -> Add Layer and adding a layer from either a file, or from pasting data from another open PDB file. Layers can be split by chains,
- Chains: Some PDB files contain multiple chains. You can create new layers from these chains by going to Layers -> Split. This will allow users to rotate and translate these chains independent of one another.
- Layer Transformations: each layer can be transformed (rotated and/or translated) independently of one another. To perform the same transformation on multiple layers, select more than one layer using the shift key.
