VistaPDB VistaPDB Manual -> Model Types

Model Types

Several model types are supported. Each model has its advantages and disadvantages, depending upon the end result one wishes to obtain. Models can be changed on a layer per layer basis - thus one layer can be displayed as a surface model whereas another as a ribbon.

To change the model type of the current layer, select the model type using the pulldown menu in the toolbar or go to the Layers menu and select a model. The default model is a main chain stick representation.

  • Stick - Bonds are represented by 3D lines, coloring is based upon the atom type.
  • Ball and Stick - bonds are represented by 3D lines, and atoms by small balls.
  • Space Filling - Atoms are represented by large balls.
  • Ribbon - Secondary structures are represented by ribbons, strings, and cylinders.
  • Surface - the Macromolecular surface is represented as a smooth surface.
