Ribbon Models

Ribbon models are an excellent way to visualize secondary structure of proteins. Several types of models are supported:

  • Ribbon only: model in which the main chain is represented as a simple ribbon.
  • Ribbon and String: Model in which helices and sheets are represented by a ribbon, and loops by a string.
  • Ribbon and Cylinder: Model in which helices are represented as a ribbon, sheets as a cylinder, and loops as a string.

To swith to a Ribbon Model, go to Layers->Ribbon or use the toolbar model selection menu. Ribbon models are constructed using the algorithm described by Carson and Bugg (J.Mol.Graphics 4:121-122).
